You never know when you will need a good towing company, so a little research now could save you a lot of time, money and stress in the future. If you wait until you need roadside towing or an auto service center, you definitely won’t have the time or desire to find the best one.
Ask around. Just about everyone you know probably has a vehicle, and many of them have used a local towing company. Call a friend; talk to a co-worker; post a call for recommendations on Facebook. People who have had really good – and really bad – service will be happy to share their experience.
Go online. A simple search for towing companies in your area will turn up several results. Check out their websites to get a feel for the company. Read reviews on Google, Yelp, Yahoo, Angie’s List, Facebook and other resources.
Call the company. Customer service on the phone is usually a good indicator of what you are getting into. It is a good sign if you call a roadside towing service and the dispatcher is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Do they offer roadside assistance? Sometimes, you need a tow truck to take you to an auto service center. Sometimes, you just need a little gas or a battery boost. If you’re unsure, wouldn’t it be nice to know that you can get either with one phone call?
If you are out of town, call the local police. Just a quick disclaimer: This does not mean call 9-1-1. Every local police department has a dispatcher phone number, and every local police department deals with local towing companies on a daily basis. They should be able to point you in the right direction.
